WW2 Japanese Capture of the Philippines badge

The obverse has the phrase 'Commemorating the Capture of the Philippines' (比島) at the top and 'Showa 16 [1941] December 27' at the bottom. The reverse says 'Great East Asia War. Watari [unit commander's family name] 8857 Platoon.'
